moon Posted December 16, 2003 Report Share Posted December 16, 2003 I've got a LiteOn LTR 52327S (LTR-52327S) CD-RW Burner in my new system. It functioned fine as a CD-ROM when I was setting things up and loading the software but I've just tried to use it as a burner and the software can't see it. Is it up to date?Quite often, especially with new models, CD/DVD burners aren't recognised by the software installed - even if the software was supplied bundled with the device.Try going to the Nero, Roxio or whatever website and downloading the latest updates. -pops- Posted December 16, 2003 Report Share Posted December 16, 2003 My thinking behind my suggestion of trying Nero was to get it to recognise the device as a burner.I remember that a CDRW can be identified by Windows as a CD ROM until software is installed that "knows" the device is what it's supposed to be. moon Posted December 16, 2003 Author Report Share Posted December 16, 2003 OK chaps, I'll get the Nero demo.I unistalled the device through Windows but it just rebooted with the same info. I tried updating the drivers through Windows but it asked for the disc. I tried selecting from 'known' but Liteon doesn't appear at all ( Win 2K here, chaps) I tried looking in the WINNT folder but I really don't know where to find anything related to CD-RW's. The 'drivers' folder appeared empty. The three drivers currently listed in Windows for the device are all in the System 32 folder but I can't see anything in there either. WXP tells me it is a DVD ROM yet it writes DVDs quite happily via Nero, DVD X Copy and Pinnacle Instant Copy.I would think that just in the same way that your Iomega software doesn't recognise your burner because that model post dates any revisions of the software, Windows is exactly the same. AS W2K is not, and was never, the most popular of Bill Gates efforts it is unlikely now that it will be made to intrinsically recognise any new models of anything. I can live with 2K being a tad retarded as I've just moved up from 98SE, :D It burns with Nero though so no worries.Just ran DeepBurner, boris. It recognised the drive and burned a perfect disc. I like the interface , which makes Nero look like an arcade game. Definitely one for the economically deprived philanthropist, I'd say.
