Guest Shirley_Crabtree
I have 2 PCs.Both have XPpro installed and they are networked with 10MBps nics' and a crossover cable.I shall call my MAIN PC(with dial-up internet connection) "A"And my other PC is "B"The network was set up,very easily, last week and it all worked perfect, for instance both PCs had a button called My Network Places and could share files etc with no problems.B could access the internet (and still can!!)The problem is that the other day I wanted to send some files from A to B.In My Network Places on B I clicked on A's shared folder(As i had done previously with no problems) and the PC froze. The folder wasn't responding and I had to end now to continue. After a few more tries A's shared folder disappeared altogether from B's My Network Places. Also if A hosts a LAN game of Counterstrike B doesn't see it...But if B hosts A can join and play.(Although latency seems worse than before spiking to 60 as opposed to the 10 or 11 before)Somewhere along the way I deleted B's Shared folder in B's My Network Places completely by accident  B can access the internet with no problems.I've just spent HOURS removing all manner of rather aggresive spyware/trojan cr@p that my cousin managed to pick-up(Thanks Nellie2 for your spot-on advice :D)...could this be what caused the problems??Right a summary:- On A if I click My Network Places I see 2 shared folders(A's and B's)On B the My Network Places is empty. If I host a LAN game on A,B can't see the game.If I host a LAN game on B ,A can join no problems.Internet connection is fine for both PCs.How can I re-establish the network so it works as before?Sorry for the long post and thanks in anticipation :D Shirl. spikeychris
Have to pop for a while but have you checked "computer browser"? go to start and run and type services.msc look for computer browser and make sure it is running.

spikeychris
What I don't understand are your comments After a few more tries A's shared folder disappeared altogether from B's My Network Places. look in event viewer, start run (eventvwr.msc) what errors are you getting? spikeychris
Just to point out you haven't deleted the entire folder (unless you have actually clicked the folder itself, What you moved/deleted was a shortcut to a shared folder, not the folder itself. You can create a new shortcut. In My Network Places, click "Add anetwork place" and follow the wizard's prompts.

I've only just noticed the 15:51 post I was running event viewer at the time :DI followed your instructions and B's shared folder is back in B's My Network Places and A can still access.I keep trying to browse to A's shared folder on the network(on B) but it keeps failing to find it and throws up an error about not having permission or that the path doesnt exist or something. Regards.Shirl.Edit...PS is it possible to ping from A to B and B to A just to make sure the network is ok?
