doug Posted January 28, 2004 Report Share Posted January 28, 2004 Following my other question which is now resolved I noted that popeye's connections show his Freeview box connected to his video via a scart lead as well as to the TV. Does this mean you can record the digital programs, eg, BBC4 etc? I note that BBC 3 & 4 have the videoplus numbers. The video in question is a standard VHS unit. It's a brand new Panasonic with built in Freeview - do anything to keep "her" happy while I'm on here. Anyway this has only got 1 scart socket to which I've connected to the video. HOWEVER, if you still have the old ariel. leave that plugged in and you can record any free to air programme, or indeed ANY digital programme. At least this is how it works on my NTL set up. Guest northamuk Posted February 11, 2004 Report Share Posted February 11, 2004 Doug, I fear that you are going to have problems trying to record Freeview programmes from a BUILT-IN decoder. It is no problem if you have a Standalone decoder, preferably with two Scart sockets, but you could use a Scart splitter to feed the TV and the Video from one outlet on the STB.You will have to consult your Panasonic Manual to determine if the TV actually has a video output (not necessarily via Scart) It MAY have Phono sockets, Red white and Yellow however these are normally for inputting signals, which is why you'll have to check the manual. If it does, in fact, have a video OUTPUT and it is via Phono connectors you can connect them to your VCR Phono INPUT sockets.If you can't output an Audio and video link from the TV you could buy another Standalone STB (giving you the ability to watch one Freeview channel while recording a different one) (You must record using the AV setting on your VCR) Also it will be necessary to tune the STB using either the TV or the VCR connected to the TV and showing the VCR picture from the AV setting. To record from the Standalone box you simply set the VCR to record from the AV setting and set the STB to the proper channel you want to tape.
