moon Posted January 31, 2004 Report Share Posted January 31, 2004 After my fresh install I want to 'ghost' my C drive onto my D drive to use for quick reinstalls in future. Now, my C drive is 12 Gig with 1.5 Gig used by my fresh install, and this is what I want to 'ghost' onto my D drive. I created a 2 Gig partition on the D drive ready to receive it and then..............I thought 'bugger', 'Ghost' is going to want to copy the whole bloody C drive, not just the 1.5 Gig I want copied onto the 2 Gig partition. So, that being the case, how can I ghost my 1.5 Gig of O/S and software onto the 2 Gig partition I've created to receive it ? Can 'Ghost' select just the used bit of the C drive or will it want to copy the whole C drive ? Chris Posted January 31, 2004 Report Share Posted January 31, 2004 I don't use Ghost so cannot advise on settings but if it has any compression options for the image then take advantage of it.The trick is to make any Image partition larger than you think it will be...Your going to have to just experiment... jimv7 Posted January 31, 2004 Report Share Posted January 31, 2004 Just copy an image of 'C' drive to 'D' drive or even to a cdrw under high compression.If it helps I have copied an 80gig drive to a 1.5gig with no problems, ghost will only copy the 'used' part of the drive. I've got 'Drive Image' not 'Ghost' As soon as I saw Ghost was Norton I dumped it.Suppose I did this;My C drive is 12 Gig ( !0.5 Gig empty)My D drive is 16 Gig ( 6.7 Gig empty)What if I create a partition on my C drive of 10 Gig ? This should leave my existing O/S and files on a partition of 2 Gig. and that will still be called C.Then I create a 2 Gig partition on my D drive ( lets call it F) and then copy C to F using Drive Image.I guess I'd then have two partitions on HDD one ( C=2Gig, D=10 Gig) and two partitions on HDD two ( E=14 Gig, F=2 Gig) Then I go back to HDD one and delete the 10Gig partition. mark2 Posted January 31, 2004 Report Share Posted January 31, 2004 Moon DI will image your 'C' of 1.5 gig directly to a partition on your 2nd HDD, and will compress it, My current 'C' is 4.5 GB used of 15GB , I have 3 diff images on my F partition of 14gb with approx space for 2 more images.Any help ?
