Extigy incompatibility???????????????

I've used Soundblaster Extigy units for ages and find them very successful for ease of use and convenience. I've recommended them to others as well with equally positive results.

However, someone I recently suggested that they use an Extigy unit says he can't do so because Extigy conflicts with certain Via chipsets. I've searched and searched for evidence of this and haven't found any. I should point out as well that I've not seen any real evidence from the perpetrator of this either.

Has anyone here heard of an Extigy/VIA chipset incompatibility and if you have, can you point me to the place to find information on it?

TIA

Hmmm.. I would have expected that if it were general problem there would be a lot more publicity about it . I tend to think that it is a problem associated with a specific setup (IRQs or whatever) rather than an indictment on the combination with Via chipsets.

I think he's been had!! Possibly by someone wanting to sell him something different. B)

The link from nellie is the only positive mention of an incompatibility that has been found. This indicates, to me at least, that the original information was spurious. If there was a real problem it would be much wider known and reported and I'm certain there would be a lot of correspondence about it in various forums and help guides.

Later today, I am taking my own Extigy unit and installing it in the "problematic" machine to see what happens. I'll let you know.
