casey
A friend of a friend wants me to transfer photo's etc. from an old comp to his new one and I wondered what would be the easiest method. I haven't seen the old comp but assume it has no Cd writer. I can't fit the old HDD to the new comp because of the guarantee. I could fit it to mine, burn to disk then load them on to his but a long way round. Thanks.
-pops-
Assuming the new machine is WXP, look up Files & Settings Transfer Wizard in Help & support. It will give you several options of ways to do this.
casey
Thanks for the reply. If I did this using serial lead what happens, does it show up as another drive under My Computer or something.
nellie2
Um not sure, never done it.... is this any help? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertz.../november12.asp
-pops-
Not done it that way myself but if you look in the Help & Support and in the actual Wizard itself it tells you what and how to do things.I don't think it sees the other machine as another drive.EDIT:Nell's got the answer (again!) :)

madboy33
has your freinds computer got USB? If he has just link the 2 comps together and send across
-pops-
Does that mean you have done it some other way.I've done it via the USB route and by copying to Zip disks and CD. All were dead easy and if it does go wrong (as one transfer did once) nothing is lost and you just try again.
casey
I am interested in the USB route, could you give me a few details of how to do it especially how to actually transfer the data.Thanks.
-pops-
Apologies, casey. The transfer wasn't quite as I suggested. It was by USB but it was a USB network interface which is a bit different to a direct USB connection. The instructions in the wizard say how to do it, I think!
