Partitions, different types...

Well you can have a maximum of 4 Primary partitions, you would install an OS to a primary partition.

But you can have an extended partiton with as many logical drives as you want... [to a point, you either run of space or it does not become practical]

Linux installation differ, it all depends what you want installed. I would say you would need 6GB to be safe. Linux will actually create 3 partitons for you...

To make it easier IMO make some "free space" and point Linux in the direction of it and it will do the rest.
