Guest Drovers Dog
:P I have used Eicar Test Viruses for quite some years now, and the reason I prefer AVG, it detects all four of them, EVERY TIME!If you want to find out just how good your Anti Virus is go to the following Site, read carefully what they say, then download one by one the four HARMLESS TEST Viruses, THEY ARE HARMLESS!!http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htmIt is just nice to see that some Countries are doing something together to FIGHT Viruses!!Of interest, not many Anti Viruses pick up No.3 or No.4! I always have them scattered on my Drives, AVG EVERY Time, other On Line Scans only sometimes!! :censored: :D
expertec
My NAV 2003 blocks the first two, it lets me download the others but not run them, they were deleted when I tried to do that :D :D :D

Guest Drovers Dog
:P Just of interest, Expertec, a Mates Computer was playing up really badly, he had NAV, I disabled it installed AVG, it found 138 Viruses!!I don't have any affiliation to AVG, Just recognise a Freebie has beat them ALL!!I just hope he keeps going!! :censored: :D
-pops-
The Eicar Test virus is just as it says - a test. It is not a "REAL" virus, it is just built like one and is non-infective and non-dangerous.Relying on it is something akin to testing drugs on animals and projecting their reactions to the human race expecting 100% success. As we all know too well, this doesn't necessarily work.

Your System is at Risk!Just my Opinion! I would prefer to use a Safer System! :censored: :D

Guest Drovers Dog
:P Wouldn't it make sense, if you were a Vendor of an Anti Virus Program, it would at least detect a World Wide accepted Test!! :censored: :D

Chris
If your AV fails to detect 3 and 4 it means that it cannot scan compressed folders. When you uncompress it it should then detect the test sting.NAV 2003 is an example of this but 2004 can detect all 4. It found 3 of the 4 during a on demand scan. The fourth one it did not find until I tried to open it. Disinfected all four.

Guest Drovers Dog
:P Now you have all got that off your chests, can we get back to the Original Topic? If your AV let anyone of the four through, unless it was 3 and 4! You have a real Problem!! First suggestion is to contact your Vendor of the Product and ask, "WHY?" If it can't detect 1 or 2, as they are just basic simple Programs, agreed to be a BenchMark, for ALL AV's!! Second suggestion, if you are not happy to the response from first suggestion, find a better AV!!If your AV found 1 and 2, but let 3 and 4 through, but found them BOTH on a full scan later, without you having to do anything, you have a GOOD AV!!If the only way your AV can find ANYONE of them, 1 through to 4, is by you opening them, follow my advice above!!They are the Industry's Standard, agreed throughout the World. If your AV can't detect ALL of them, your System is not SECURE!!Just imagine? Say your AV let something similar, a REAL Virus, into your System, you are having problems, for example, playing a Game, so you turn off your AV????Then that Virus activated???I am not Joking with this!!! :censored:
Guest Drovers Dog
Disable it.As for the others :(Shouldnt have to i didnt with 2003 , pain in the arse :P Rebel=Uk= just check out AVG Free, from www.grisoft.com uses less resources too, and doesn't cost ya!!That is what pees me off too, you pay Money to get something to protect your Investment, of Money and Time, you at least want it to work properly!!If you complain to NAV, you are treated as if you come from another Planet!! Just my previous experience with them! They may have changed their Attitude over the years! :censored: :D
