Bruce
Went to the mountains today to take some scenic photo's and had the added benefit of stumbling on a bear. The last six pictures are the ones conataining the bear. The first was wayyyy to close for comfort, that was when we found each other. The remaining five of him are from a distance and the underbrush is thick but you'll see him if you look close enough. The other pictures are what I started doing today until I got sidetracked following the bear through the woods.http://s93545360.onlinehome.us/October_Mountain/images.html

Bruce
Nice pictures, but you could could call it a Sasquatsch and I still wouldn't be able to see it!I brightened up the first one should be a little easier now. The others he is about 75 feet away if you look right in the center of the pictures you'll see him. http://s93545360.onlinehome.us/October_Mountain/p5190033.jpgI'll draw circles and arrows and and paragraphs with descriptions if it will help ya any. :D Or I can blow them up, or post the original full size 2560x1920 images, you can definately see him in those. If you don't have broadband it would take a while to see them they are over 1 meg each.

A North Eastern Black Bear but in either case the absolute worse thing you could do is run. He didn't like it anymore then I did when we came upon each other and he is the one who moved on. The only thing he didn't like was when I lowered my camera and looked him directly in the eyes. He squared off on me, as soon as I looked away he went on about his business of digging around for things to eat.Running wouldn't help. Bears can run up to 35 miles an hour for short distances. I ain't that fast. Figured if I was going to come up missing at least my camera would tell them where I went. :P
Bruce
Here are some edited shots that show him a little better. Yes he was huge for a Black Bear. In the last one he squared off on me, and wanted to stare me down, I took the shot and a few more then decided it was time to leave him be.http://s93545360.onlinehome.us/Bear/images.html

Bruce
Benefit of a high resolution camera, you can zoom in and crop and still retain a bit of quality. The last is blurry, because I think I may have been a little unsteady when he stared straight at me. :surrender:

Guest Drovers Dog
:P I can remember, years ago, in Aussieland, I was at a Conference with the Company I worked for at the time, there was a good friend, Vince, an Americiam with me. A waiter came up and took our order for Drinks, and Vince said, "Just give me a Scotch!" The Waiter replied, "Yes Sir, would you be wanting ice with that?"Vince replied, "Does a Bear sh*t in the Woods, cause I want F**KING ICE!"No Offence! Each Country has their own unusal Creatures, and hopefully we can ALL learn about them. Many Jokes from many Countries revolve around them! :censored: :D
andsome
When in Yosemite nation Park in the USA, we were told that if we met a cougar or a bear, NOT to run under any circumstances. The instruction was to open up your coat if wearing one, jump up and down and shout, and if available throw stones at it. The idea being to look as large and fierce as possible. I asked the man who was booking us into our lodge, if there was any extra charge if we got involved in such a fight, his reply was, "no sir, it's absolutely free". Bruce
Ahhhhh, bunch a cowards. If he wants to eat you, hopping up and down flapping your arms and tossing pebbles at him won't do much but make him take a few bites as punishment before he finishes you off. :lol2:Bad enough to get attacked but no need to look like a bloody fool in the process.
