Scarecrow Man Posted June 14, 2004 Report Share Posted June 14, 2004 I recently crashed my Windows XP, don't ask how, it's a long story. :oops: :censored: What I need to know is,How do I save my e-mail addresses, and messages (addresses more importantly), from a specific user, and what other information I would want to back up, if I was to format and re-install windows XPThe My Documents folders have been backed up, along with downloaded programs, I am mainly looking for a way to back up things like e-mail and settingsNote:After my crash, I installed win2k on a seperate partition, and it works fine. I am able to browse into the old winXP partition, but I cannot boot to it, or anything like that.I don't want to have to save like 10 gigs of data just to save my files. If anyone knows where these types of files reside, or if they can link me to somewhere that will help me out, I'd be a happy camper.Thank you. Chris Posted June 14, 2004 Report Share Posted June 14, 2004 There are many applications that can backup OE settings, emails etc, some are free some are paid for...For Eample: http://www.snapfiles.com/downloadfind.php?...backup&action=s I can't recommend one as I don't have the need for them.Now Outlook Express has a STORE folder...where it will store you inbox, outbox etc in the form of a *.dbx file.You could search for these files, hidden by default but point search at the XP partition...and copy em over to the store folder on 2K, if you can see your emails, in 2K then you can back them up and and when XP is allworking you'll know that you can view them !!By default the STORE folder is @: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{51AD1175-30B8-452E-B277-ABE2CCAF5A32}\Microsoft\Outlook Express51AD1175-30B8-452E-B277-ABE2CCAF5A32 may varyThis is also hidden.For your address book search for *.wab Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Scarecrow Man Posted June 15, 2004 Author Report Share Posted June 15, 2004 I figured it out!I copied X:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Outlook and X:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Outlook to my new user (win2k), loaded outlook 2003 and there were all my messages, and addresses!Thanks for the help everyone.
