Besty Posted June 19, 2004 Report Share Posted June 19, 2004 My broadband is not working and has not been for the past few days :( but there is alot has changed in a very short space of time. Does the forum realy need to become more serious. I am maby just still a bit hazy from the headache tablets but should more time not be taken to think these things through and ask different opinions and stuff. MainMan Posted June 20, 2004 Report Share Posted June 20, 2004 Could someone please explain what is going on here?Last night I submitted a proposed change for the layout of Windows Forum, You are seeing that change now when you look at the forum. Nothing has been deleted it's still there but just under a different board name. Board names are all that have changed, some new, but previous topics can be seen under these new boards.The big change however is that the THE JOKE BOARD board has gone, [but don't worry Craig just has it hidden from us all]. The reason for this is that Windows Forum is moving, yup were moving on with the times; to become more professional and if this means ditching the joke board then so be it.Now some facts:Forum Member: Has few privileges on the board, but of the privileges that are there. They allow him/her to participate on the forum.MODERATOR: A few more options are available and it is his/her role to moderate posts and keep it friendly.ADMIN: A whole host of options to choose from from creating new boards to deleting them.ROOT: Root access on the board is well you have everything to play with, only one person with root access and that is Craig.Let's say Andsome wanted a new board - more than likely he would ask for it and a decison would be made on whether he would get it.. That's how it works...However last night everything happened very quickly, when I submitted the proposed changes, Craig liked them so much that he made the changes and didn't tell anyone :(Not even his fellow ADMINS.Now I'm sure Craig would admit that this was a simple mistake on his behalf. Now as has been seen, further changes to the board have also been made [Misc coming back] so the changes I submitted were not final.The reason why ellas left was because of the same reason northamuk left and that reason was? They just didn't like the way "I was taking over" and so they left.They made a decision and are now gone.I [powerless] have not taken over, I simply had an idea that would change the way the forum would look as said above. But does this mean that when it becomes more 'professional' the more 'unprofessional' ones among us like myself will be less valued. The idea behind it was to provide a place that was easy going... where problems could be solved and fun could be had and members could state an opinion and not worry about recriminations just because they weren't toe-ing the line.If something is working it cannot stay static... it will grow and it will change but that doesn't mean that we will lose sight of why WF was created in the first place.Ellas, Northamuk and a lot of others have put a lot of time and effort into making WF what it is today. I'm saddened that Besty worries that he will have no value here now. How on earth can we learn? Check out some of my early posts if they are still about...... I didn't have a clue! (Still don't in some areas) I have learned what I know through interaction with people like yourselves, I have made my mistakes here on the forum, laughed about them and learned from them and that is not going to change.The only thing that has changed recently is that the forums have moved about a bit. If you want to post a joke or talk about a band playing in your area then you still can.... the thinking behind the forum hasn't changed.. just the look! So Besty... keep comming and keep being you, we may manage to turn you into an amazing computer technician!!!! :) The problems we had over the last few days have been mainly due to a lack of communication.... Craig isn't the best at that!! But perhaps that is why he likes having me around because given half the chance I will communicate enough for 10 people! You can't shut me up once I get going.So, lets remember what Windows Forum is about and lets get on with keeping the spirit of WF alive and kicking! I have seen the forum grow, met a few good mates along the way and had fun.The Biggest miss on this forum will be ellas for me, he has helped me out on numerous occasions, even given me things for free. I'll give you an example as to what a nice bloke he is.I was buying a new PC and he told me where to buy it. I bought the PC and then he sent me in the mail a Stick of ram for it free of charge. I sent him a tenner and he went mad at me as he said that it was free. He is one of the nice blokes in this world. I don't know what really went on behind the scenes in the admin board, but i thought this was a bit of a family forum, where people could have a giggle and at the same time fix problems, unlike other forums, where its just PC PC PC.Now northy, what a nice bloke he is, he kept a lot of us in line when the going was tough and things got out of hand.
