Thoughts:

The install of NAV 2005 is much the same as NAV 2004, what suprised me was the pre-install scanner scanned a whopping 50 files and found nothing...that's a suprise! [unless i missed something]

Product Activation for the second year running is present on the NAV and you have 15 days in which to activate.

The look of NAV 2005 is more pleasing, easier on the eye and a joy to look at...well for a virus scanner at least. There is also the new feature of Internet Worm Protection.

Looking through the options, generally nothing much has changed from NAV 2004.

With one exception.

That Internet Worm Protection acts like a mini port blocker [basic firewall?] and you can also configure programs to either access the internet or not. There is also trojan blocking to add to it all.

...and yes eicar is detected!

Final thoughts!

NAV 2005 is still in beta and who knows what Symantec will change from now to the the final version. Internet Worm Protection is an interesting one but anyone with a firewall would proabably not care about this.

Internet Worm Protection is only the newst addition to NAV 2005 [ignoring the little changes] but is it really worth it? For first first timers buyers, yes. But for the people in the know, i imagine they wouldn't even taken a glance.

Stable? ...Runs perfectly, opens quick, scans quick....no apperent problems.

As it's only a beta product don't read to much into this reporters review.

Over and Out

Powerless.

EDIT: Seems I need fully work out Internet Worm Protection as it appears it is not blocking applications - if that is what it actually does.

Is there a lot of difference between 2004 & 05?

I want to go back to Norton (had 2003 & 04 before)but dont know weather to get it now or wait for the new one. What do you think?

Hmm i would say no there is not.

A few more options here and there and the Internet Worm Protection oh and a colour change.

But don't call me an expert because i'm not.

But there are free alternatvies that do the samething...

But in saying that I like NAV and would probably buy 05 at the end of the day.

Thanks, I've been using the paid for AVG7 and it's let through a few viruses so I'm not particularly happy with it.

I have had Norton before and it's always worked for me and never given me any trouble, so I'll probably go back to it.

Either I buy it now from Amazon for £25 or wait for the new one which, I'm guessing will be the usual £45 ish.

decisions decisions
