gregh21 Posted July 14, 2004 Report Share Posted July 14, 2004 Whenever I try to install software which spans more than one CD then at a random point in the installation windows returns an error saying 'Wrong volume in G: drive, please insert disk 1' with the buttons for 'retry', 'continue' and another one which I can't remember. After this it is not possible to carry on as Windows crashes and leaves me with a corrupt install of the software. This has only just started happening as I have been installing multi-disk software for sometime without a problem. I'm running Windows XP SP1 with all the latest Windows Updates. When the setup calls for a new disk, the Windows Installer engine verifies that the volume label of the disk matches the volume label that is stored in the setup database. If the labels do not match, the service assumes that the wrong disk has been inserted in the drive.Have you just tried ignoring the pop up box.... does the software continute to install? gregh21 Posted July 14, 2004 Author Report Share Posted July 14, 2004 Yes I have tried to ignore the message but it either crashes windows (totally locks up) or the software installation ends without completing properly (ie. half the installation is missing).It comes up with this message usually when it is on the second or third cd and it asks for the first cd to be reloaded (which is completely wrong). I had a problem when I renamed one of my partitions from G to X, and it caused a whole heck load of problems... I fix it, but it wasn't pretty.Also, can you install any multi CD? It may be the CD that is having a problem, though it's unlikely. If it's a burned CD, try a real multi-CD.Also, try another CD drive, if you have one.... By software I'm thinking of anything that may be running in the back ground whilst you are trying to install I haven't installed anything new recently but I do have alcohol 120% installed which sets up a virtual drive (I have heard this may cause problems but I have been running it for at least a year without a problem).Have you renamed your drives using 3rd part software? I think that it is something to do with virtual drives setup by Alcohol and/or Nero. I read about someone else having the problem and they tried deinstalling alcohol and nero to no avail.....
