Media Player Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am running xp home sp1 with all updates etc...

I also have installed

Windows Media Player 9

Winamp 3

C-media player that came with my on-board sound.

Since yesterday when i double click a mp3 file wmp9 opens but then shuts down immediately (we are talking 1/2 a second).

If i open wmp9 it stays open then i goto file/open and select a song, then wmp9 shuts down immediately, the same happens if i drag a song into wmp9.

Now if i open Audio Graber and select to play a song from there, it opens wmp9 and plays it fine.

Wmp9 plays video files as normal so all is ok there.

Exactly the same thing happens if i try to use the C-Media player that came with my on-board sound.

Winamp 3 is the only player i have that is acting normally.

I have checked the file associations and MP3 is set to open with wmp9.

Now maybe i dream-ed this, but was there an update for wmp9 in the last week or so? cos i seem to remember having to tell wmp9 not to connect to the internet for every thing, the same options i ticked when i first installed it.

Does anybody have anyideas??

All the best

Tony

Cheers ellas

I downloaded that little fix, but it did not fix it.

So i downloaded wmp9 again in full, installed it over the top, but sadly the problem is staying put. :(

Hi ellas

Ok went to the test site, but had the same results.

So i had a look at the system restore points, and there was one on the 12 March Titled "Windows Media Player Install" so it does look like i was not dreaming about the wmp9 update.

Just to be on the safe side i restored to the 11th March, and now all is fine :-) my mp3 files now have the winamp icon (which i can not say if they did before hand or not (can't remember))

But it is all working fine now, so i would say that the wmp9 update on the 12th messed things up a bit.

Thanks for your help

All the best

Tony
