W98 Problems, need help

Recommended Posts

I have a Toshiba laptop 2060 [5 years old], but adequate memory, and W98.

When I Boot up about 4 IDENTICAL dialog boxes for my dialup appear all asking for my password. All is fine IF I close them all before progressing but how can I stop them appearing automatically at all?

Recently installed MS Outlook [Office 2000], can I now uninstall my old OE?

After running IE6 and moving to MS Outlook to Send/Receive I have it set to disconnect the connection.. but it does not do so. Can anyone help please?

I am getting many Pop-Ups. Some fill the screen. How can I close them?

Why does my dial up refuse to remember my password?

Thanks in anticipation...

Paul

Well paul, chances are you have a bit of spyware on your computer, maybe a virus or two as well. The reason your computer is trying to connect may be a program trying to access the internet, and because your not connected yet, it tries to connect. You might want to post a HijackThis log, as well as a scan with at least two virus scanners. (online ones. Don't install 2). After which you may want to try ad-aware as well.

HijackThis

Ad-Aware

Trend Micro Housecall

Panda Active Scan

Post your hijackthis log in the spyware section, or here, but it may be moved.

Everyone has given you some good advice to think about. I really think that we need to sort out the spyware/adware problem that you have first before we look at anything else. Have a look at the pinned topics in this forum http://www.windowsforum.org/forum/index.php?showforum=53 If you are not sure about anything then please ask.
