Critical update/last known good

Recommended Posts

Just nearly ran into a big problem. Was just browsing before tidying prior to hols, last night, when I noticed I could only ope 1 window at a time. Running XPpro. Then spotted the critical update and downloaded via the link on here. System rebooted automatically and crashed. Said nasty words. Thought on it last night and have just re-booted via last known good configuration. With success. Only came up with a 4 bit screen resolution but have reloaded Vidia driver.

Suggestions please, not much time to spare as it's panic packing day.

Just done that again. Thought everything was OK. Ran Belarc adviser and noted that some files ref. KB needed re-installing so ran sfc /scannow and had to keep re-inserting CD. Finally got to the end and re-booted. Wouldn't boot so have just gone for last known good configuration again. Have noted that I can open one screen e.g. this one but when I try and open another IE screen the screen flashes and I'm still left with this one.

I have just made a crucial decision. As my system seems to be sort of working at the moment I'll leave well alone 'till after we get back. Then I might have more time to investigate (play). Hope I will be able to find this thread again and pick up where I left off. Thanks for help so far. May look in again during the evening but then I'm doing a major switch off for my daughter to sort my study while @m away. She has been using words such as Tip, disgraceful, sort your desk out and she'll clean behind. What can I say in reply to that. Only hope I can plug it all together again on return.
