djohn Posted September 17, 2004 Report Share Posted September 17, 2004 I was still logged in at 1 am this morning and looking at the list at the bottom of the page it gave my name + 1 guest and googlebot! The guest logged off leaving me and googlebot to keep a watch on the forum. :lol: What I couldn't understand though was the fact that googlebot didn't have a line under it's/his/her name so it wasn't an active link the same as my name was but when I clicked on "Last Click" to see what he was up to it said "Sending email" :unsure: Can someone explain please? I had a feeling it was something like that, just seemed strange to see it was sending email from the site when I clicked to see what it was up to. If you publish your e-mail address publicly, a "bot" as it's called can read through every post searching for the syntax of an e-mail address. (*@*.*) and if it finds this syntax, it's recorded in a database, and spammed like thiers no tomorrow.I believe googlebot is searching for words that appear more often than others, to get an idea of what it should be advertising. They come along randomly, it could be a matter of days or a matter of weeks before you see them again.On my site i have a little script that tells the bot to return every five days, this helps in keeping the site near the top of the list.But also on my site i have a contacts page with some email address, again i use a script to tell it not read the contents of this directory, it seems to work as we do not get any spam on the address listed on that page.CheersTony Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
