Just a little query. It causes NO problem but puzzles me. Usually in Outlook express, you would expect incoming mail to be set for pop.ntlworld.com, and outgoing as smtp.ntlworld.com. In my case the incoming is pop.ntlworld.com, but the outgoing is localhost, if I reset it to smtp, it won't work. Does anyone else have this peculiarity?

Correct me if I am wrong but don't you have Norton running? Norton does this with the smtp settings so that it can scan the outgoing mail.

Personally I've turned the scanning of outgoing mail off because when sending large email attachments it often caused the sending to timeout and fail.

Slightly selfishly I take the view that users should protect themselves so don't see the need to scan what I send out only what comes in.

I do have Norton AV, but have also turned off outgoing mail scans. If Norton is stopping virus's from getting onto the computer in the first place, I can see little point in scanning outgoing mail.
