Bergrotz Posted October 13, 2004 Report Share Posted October 13, 2004 Hello,I work for an aerospace manufacturing company who has, as many have, been through miltiple name changes over the past decade or so. A new govenment compliance states we must convert all of our drawings and process sheets, whether text or CAD, to display our current name in the heading. I am looking for help in searching our LAN for all of the sheets containing one of our previous names. The formats which are to be searched through include: Word, Word Perfect, AutoCAD, and CADRA, pretty much all versions of each. I can pin point where on the LAN these files our located, but have had no success in generating a list of files. If anyone knows of a method to perform this search, please let me know. -pops- Posted October 13, 2004 Report Share Posted October 13, 2004 In Word, all occurences of a particular word can be found from Edit -> Find (or Ctrl + F). I have a very useful free program called Copernic Desktop Search which will search my PC using a key word.... I don't know if it will do a LAN though, probably not.However I've been to the Copernic site and they do seem to do a business solution... even a free one for a limited amount of documents. I did try Copernic and it doesn't do the LAN. If I had a lot of time, I'd copy 5000 files at a time to my hard drive and do individual searches with the program, but there is just not nearly enough time in my week...i.e. I don't make enough! Expertec - I tried Windows search. It took so long I had to leave the computer on overnight to allow it to finish. However, it came up with no results. I could have done it wrong because I am looking for three particular words and I typed them in seperated by a comma for the search criteria. I'm not sure if that is the right way to do it. Now my problem is that half of the files found in the search do not actually contain the text I was looking for.
