Kirbster Posted October 16, 2004 Report Share Posted October 16, 2004 HI all,For about 6 weeks now, my computer has stopped downloading updates automatically, I have checked the settings and they are set to download and install automatically. When I go to the Windows Update website it sits there saying "checking for the latest version of the Windows Update Software". This is the website I'm talking about. Kirbster Posted October 16, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 16, 2004 my mcafee firewall is off, it's just the router that has it's own firewall that's on. How do you turn that off? Kirbster Posted October 16, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 16, 2004 the other 2 are connected wirelessly, this is the only one connected to the router by cable, I can't see what difference it will make if I move it to another port on the router!! bvw Posted October 16, 2004 Report Share Posted October 16, 2004 http://www.theeldergeek.com/windows_update_catalog.htm..and try the Windows Catalog, save the updates you want/need and install them later.Not a solution, but it may enable you to get the updates you want.Try it on the machine that's causing a problem first...if no luck you know you can use the other machine.===============================I can only think your original problem is firewall related. You can try turning off all firewalls on the router and the machine and enable the Microsoft one, at least you will have a firewall enabled then.
