Windows Update

HI all,

For about 6 weeks now, my computer has stopped downloading updates automatically, I have checked the settings and they are set to download and install automatically.

When I go to the Windows Update website it sits there saying "checking for the latest version of the Windows Update Software". This is the website I'm talking about. I have tried leaving it, even overnight, but it just sits there. Does anyone have any idea whats gone wrong?

I had a linksys router, fine for normal surfing but downloads didn't, seemed to suffer with 1 'noisy' port all others were fine,

perhaps you could try another cable,

is it possible you try one of your wireless card in the misbehaving machine ?

perhaps clutching at straws here

..and try the Windows Catalog, save the updates you want/need and install them later.

Not a solution, but it may enable you to get the updates you want.

Try it on the machine that's causing a problem first...if no luck you know you can use the other machine.

I can only think your original problem is firewall related. You can try turning off all firewalls on the router and the machine and enable the Microsoft one, at least you will have a firewall enabled then.
