Mathematics for total time to transfer

How do I calculate how long it will take to upload a file at 30KB/s and the total file size is 500GB.

Likewise how would I calculate how long it would take to download at 120KB/s?

[in both cases ignoring flucuations in transfer speeds]

A long time in both directions. Maths a bit rusty now but here goes. Excuse the symbolisms.

500GB = 500E9, where E9 = 1GB or 1000MB

30KB = 30E3

one divided by the other = 16.67E6 or 16.7 million secs

86,400 secs per day gives something like 7 years.

Is this right folks something looks a bit screwey here. Won't bother for the second part until some other replies.

edit for E9 ( E= 10 to the power of)

Hmm, I'm only used to doing that sort of thing the old fashioned way. Damned sure there's only 86400 secs in a day. Had to used that number often enough in the past for diffusion related problems. Have had my Sctotch and off to bed. Will think on this tonight. Get back in the morning. 'night. Further Hmmm. Think G's right and I'm up the swanny didn't correctly divide by 365 for the number of years. Still my first premise was right. A long time. :)
