Just in case you haven't noticed them, the smiliies are at the left of the Enter your Post screen (all are clickable and a further selection comes up if you click "Show All") :smart:

"I echo all that has been said. Please don't line up to kick me.....but.. the FE has ALWAYS said that he will only inform the author of the thread and thats it. It makes sense, Smiffy99 knows this and I'm sure there will be other reasons concerned."

Smithy99 is the author of the post! :(

Well I must say that I am pleased and flattered for the welcome and response to my joining the forum - thank you all!

No, I did not get an email informing me as to why the thread was locked, nor did I really expect one. I was not intending to start a slagging match either on the PCA site, I was just a little concerned that an apparently genuine visitor was thrown off his own thread because PCA could not be bothered to look at the post and give a Chinese person whose English was terrible the benefit of the doubt.

There is no two ways about it, PCA has been a good forum, but in my view, its value and effectiveness has been down to the members concerned and not the management or administration of the site, whether by PCA itself or the moderators (Also from the same country as our friend - you will know where I am coming from with that comment).

I am the first to agree that nonsensical threads should be closed, as those who libel or simply abuse them. But the attitude that seems to have developed and the "Its my ball and if I cant play I'm going home" philosophy has just got to me recently.

If an "editor" of the consumer watch forum writes to someone asking for contributions and then fails to reply to an acknowledgment, that is not only unprofessional but does not bode well for the future sources of content as no one will want to contribute. Also that particular person has made many, many errors in her columns in the past that, simply, have made me cringe.

The fact that some advice on when to use and more importantly when not to use "Without prejudice" on letters of complaint that I gave on the site was picked up on and then published in the magazine without any acknowledgment of the author and perhaps just as well as the rehashed copy was full of errors, just p's me off somewhat.

Right, to business - how soon can I start to give you lot grief?

I am going to reply to PC advisor with regards to the locking of the thread

Point 1. The explanation was poor, saying that "We're not distributing the Strewth OS via this site." and letting Fleccs thread Fleccs Thread go into 595 posts without anything being said.

Point 2. They let nero and such like be distrubted with links being laid down for that.

Point 3. I got an e-mail(from the Postee) with regards to the thread that was locked Locked Thread and they advised that they were chinese and need help

Point 4. Is the PCA site not for help?

Do you really think an explanation will be forthcoming tho ?? :(

I have my doubts, all your points are valid.

I too received email from the poster and directed him to the thread.

I think the contact moderator button will now be in overdrive

When I first saw the thread in question in PCA, there had been several silly threads of late, and I thought that this was another one. I asked the moderator to look at it. Immediately I saw that the Chinese person had e-mailed two site contributors, I posted again to the thread admitting that I had possibly made a mistake. In view of this, I must admit that I was surprised when the thread was locked. I think that the thread would have eventually been locked any way even if I had not made my earlier incorrect posting. Even so I wish that I could undo things. My intentions had been good in view of the silly threads of late, but I wish that I had not visited the site that day.

Anybody taking bets on whether madboy33â„¢ receives an explanation, let alone a response from the FE?

Nice to see you here Smiffy99 - I'm a newcomer myself.

PCA just seem currently to be trampling over any opinion that doesn't agree with the management.

It is a big site to moderate but as has been said, on the site a simple redirection would have sufficed then locking the thread perhaps, with just a mention why as a common courtesy.

Prince of Calcutta

Thank you for those few kind words your Royal Highness. I just hope that everyone else sees it as you do. There are times when we all feel as though we wish that the ground would open up and swallow us.

Well, I must say that Mark2 you are quite correct in that you thought the thread would be locked "Shortly" but it was a bit sooner than even you anticipated!

Your post in this forum timed at 11:51 thread locked by FE in "The other place" timed at 11:44.

Must be the change over to BST methinks!

I quote from madboys thread in "the other place"

First of all, the thread that you refer to has got absolutely nothing to do with you has it? It was posted by another forum member

Now perhaps I am misreading this, but does this mean they do not wish us to have anything to do with a thread posted by another person?? Methinks the "helproom" will not go on too far if that is the case :D

andsome, I replied in Smiffy99's thread, (The one that was locked). :( and I made a statement to the fact, that the thread was attracting, "cry's of "Close this thread" I would like you to know that in no way was this aimed at your post, (A post that was perfectly reasonable).

But to-wards a poster who appears to have set themselves up as the un-official moderator and social conscience of PCA. forum users. My best wishes to you, and apologies if I left you to think otherwise. :(
