asokiryansky
I installed a new version of WIN XP Pro with service pack 2 on my home computer.I took this copy of windows fom work thinking I would update my home computer. I didnt activate my installation at home. I now have to install it at work. Will I be able to do this without running into problems? When does windows become registered with Microsoft. When you enter the KEY or when you Activate Windows after installation?I wonder if I am going to have to buy another version of windows to give to my job? doug
Sorry Aso I think I duplicated your thread. I'll respectfully ask for the other one to be deleted. You should get replies but I'm sure you will have to buy anothe copy. The "free" use time will only last for 30 days then it will have to be activated. The activation can only be done with one copy/installation. Scarecrow Man
Your probably going to get stuck when it comes to activation. I recomend purchasing a copy of XP for yourself (the home edition is much cheaper) and giving that oen back. It's registered with M$ when you Activate. (your CD-Key that is)
djohn
No problems at all. You can install and use the same copy of XP on several PC's quite legally and use for thirty days. Once activated though it is locked to the one PC and will not activate on the others. :)

Denbo
I don`t run Windows XP, but saw this tip in a previous forum.Subject: XP reinstall ... without having to reactivate. In the system32 folder you will find a filewpa.dbl .Copy this to a floppy or camera card, pen card etcif you have to reformat and reinstall XP, copy it back to whence it cameand because you have the same hardware...... voila! scuzzman
Not sure of its validity, but I read somewhere that like 25% of all users that bought a legit copy of XP prefer to use a pirated version because of the lack of hassle in the whole Actiation thing.
