-pops- Posted December 21, 2004 Report Share Posted December 21, 2004 If you're into printing photos, have a look at the Epson R series: R200, R300, R500, R800. They all have the same engine and differ in what extras they can do. They will all print on to printable CDs and DVDs.I have the basic R200 and find it the best printer I've had. B) Have looked at your suggestions and I like the look of the R300 which is in the price range that I had in mind.As to the remark made by expertec, what's the problem with chipped cartridges?Can you only use Branded ones or will unbranded fit and work as good.In my Canon I have been using cartridges from Inkcycle and you can't tell the difference from the real thing.Cheers popeye. -pops- Posted December 21, 2004 Report Share Posted December 21, 2004 I use cartridges from bothe the sources I mentioned above - in fact they both supply the same brands.They are chipped and behave just the same as the genuine Epson product, as far as I can tell. My son (who's in the graphics business) did some empirical testing of the Britink cartridges against the Epson ones and found little difference between them in print quality and only slight differences after exposure to strong light.Note that as well as photo printing, the "R" series are good all round printers as well. One had to be returned to the factory and exchanged for a working one after only 6 months of use. My c82 has terrible color print quality.I just bought my wife a Canon i860. She could not be happier with it. I use an HP officejet 5510 for work and am happy with that unit also.I would stay away from Epson and look at either Canon or HP printers. I would like to add to deuces wild's comments that I had an Epson C80, which I have now passed to my grand-daughters, that I was very happy with. It's still going strong even after being battered around by a 10 and a 5 year old. The reason I gave it up was because I needed a printer that would print on optical media - hence the R200. prctr Posted January 5, 2005 Report Share Posted January 5, 2005 Popeye, Looks like you've gotten tons of feedback, but here's my two cents worth:HP for photo printing, and an older model, but still available, Brother HL-1440 laser printer (now about $100.00 or even less here in U.S.) for text printing.
