andsome
Aren't you glad you were sensible enough to have protection? This should be a lesson to all the clever dicks who think it won't happen to them.

bvw
Be careful of any System Restores artist, if you don't turn it off....remember the virus may still lurk there. The virus vault is secure by the way...once in there it can't get out :)
artist
Be careful of any System Restores artist, if you don't turn it off....remember the virus may still lurk there.Do you mean I should make a new restore point now and not go back any further (if needed)? andsome
I find that System Restore will rarely go back more than a day or two anyway, so I wouldn't worry.
djohn
Hi artist. If your system is running fine at the moment and you feel you have no reason to restore to an earlier date, the best thing to do is turn off system restore and scan again just in case the worm - Dedler.2.AT is in your restore points.expertec is right in saying that we sometimes forget this and think we have got rid of a virus or worm only for it to return again because it has been hiding in one of our restore points.Right click on your "My Computer" Icon then properties and turn off system restore from there by placing a tick in the box. "Turn off system restore". This will remove all your previous restore points.Scan your drives again and when they come up clean go back and remove the tick from the system restore box. Re-boot your PC and it will make a fresh restore point from that time. You should have the option to go back quite some way for a choice of system restore points.I can go back several weeks and choose from quite a few, the reason being that in addition to the automatic points that your machine will make I also set a manual one just prior to installing a new application or making an alteration to a setting, if it goes wrong or I decide I preferred it the way it was prior to the change I can go back to that point and restore. :flowers:
scuzzman
This is aside from the fact that now, a lot of worms also infect the restore files. So even if you didn't have it when you made the restore point, you'll still have it after the restore.

Thanks djohn. :flowers: And andsome - that system restore facility is great - I have used it a few times and gone back quite a way. :)Sometimes it is OK, other times it just says cannot restore to the time requested, or words to that effect.
