nellie2
Is it possible to run SFC without the W98SE disk, and if so, how?
Chris
Highly unlikely.Unless Installation files are on the disk.Try it you never know.
nellie2
err so does sfc find the cab files automatically or do you have to do something to say ... look in there?
trackrat
If C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder exists then you can go to Start, Run and type incommandHit the Ok buttonat the prompt typecd c:\windows\options\cabsHit EnterYou will then seeC:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS. bvw
I'm sure I used to run sfc without using the 98disk.
nellie2
It's not for me.... it's for someone I'm trying to help, I think sfc is the way to go but he doesn't have the W98se disk. :(
homecomputeraid
Trackrat had the typical location for a factory image or install. People sometimes put them in other places too though. You might search for cabs or win98 and look for a directory with a lot of Cabinet files. :)
Cpt James T. Kirk
i beleive you have to have the os cd cuz it pulls the files it needs to copy over from it.
nellie2
I was given this link click here which has all sorts of info on it. But apparently the cab files can be stored on the PC as well as on the cd... although when I used to do sfc I used to get the files off the cd! Cpt James T. Kirk
that was the whole purpose for sfc. to get the corrupted files repaired or replaced. and they were taken from the cd and placed on hd in their right places to fix the problems.
