mikeh Posted January 8, 2005 Report Share Posted January 8, 2005 I have inherited a PC with two SCSI disks, one in use as drive C:, the other not yet usable. Running Windows 2000.Disk Management shows the following:Disk0Basic33.91GBOnlineDisk1Unknown68.36GBOnlineTo the left of the word "Disk1" is a red circle with a white horizontal bar in it.In the area to the right where it shows partitions, it says:68.36GBUnallocatedIf I right click on the word Disk1, I get a menu with "Write Signature" at the top.If I right click on the bar in the area to the right, I get a menu with "Create Parition" but it is greyed out.When I first come into Disk Management, the "Write signature and upgrade disk wizard" automatically starts. So far, I have just canceled out of this.Any suggestions on how I can proceed to make this disk usable will be greatly appreciated.Mike Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted January 8, 2005 Report Share Posted January 8, 2005 If you right click on the word Disk 1 or on graphic below the listing, do you get the option to format the drive?If there is nothing you need on the disc, this may be the start for getting it going again. mikeh Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Share Posted January 9, 2005 I got it working. Thanks for the help!1. Used the "Write signature and upgrade disk wizard" to write a signature.2. Right clicked Disk 1 and converted to Basic disk. (I don't plan to use any of the fault tolerant features, and I read something that said the dynamic disk may be slower.)3.
