imnotcreative72
Hello, I'm having a problem with my HP pavilion. something corrupted my registry and now windows won't boot. I have a windows xp cd and want to repair the install there now because I have files I need but this is where I run into a problem. In order for the recovery to get going it asks you for the administrator password, there isn't one and if you type nothing and hit enter it cancels the recovery. I don't know what to type to get it started, please help. Thank you
-pops-
Hello and welcome to Windows Forum.I'm not familiar with HP machines but, because it won't accept a blank, it could be that they have a standard password applicable to all their machines or models.Someone will be along soon with more knowledge than me but it may be that contacting HP could provide the password for you. mark2
Some early XP installations had a problem where they asked for a non existent password, (I had a sony with this problem) the workaround was to download the boot floppies from M$, http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994 which bypassed this problem.
