Tankus
why not complain to your ISP and get them to look at it.....they could easily trace the source......Out of interest what happened.?...and why do you think that they would be reading this post ?.? Scarthy © ® ™
A usefull site I use is Sam Spade. Just type the attackers IP from your firewall program in the "Do-Stuff" link and it will trace the IP. Norton Firewall describes the attacker as "A Remote Computer".I used to get alot of trojan attempts. I emailed my ISP and they gave me an abuse email address to report the attacks to. They also told me that any attacks that revealed ".pol.co.uk" in the name(in Sam Spade) were their own checks and nothing to worry about. I now get very few... :D ;)
Tankus
Yep ..... used to get a lot of admin (false) checks myself........I just leave my firewall on (zone alarm)....with the alarms and logs turned off....It'll just ramp up your paranioa............I used to use neotrace which would track back the IP addresses from where the alerts came from.....mostly admin peeps in Sunderland for some strange reason..................(hotbot...and freeserve)Now I don't giva *beep* for my alerts ....I just leave it on ...and get on with it.... Sureshot
To quote an earlier posting "contact your ISP"Can anyone tell me if they have had any success in contacting an ISP to report a hack. Did you receive a reply telling you what steps had been taken if any? Was an investigation carried out? Did you ever hear anything back?I emailed AOL (boo! hiss!) about several hack attempts made by someone on their network when I was with them. Did I receive even a automated response from them? No way! My experience has shown that ISP's don't care one bit!If someone can prove me wrong on this I would be most happy. A restored sense of faith in the system will then follow...Your thoughts... Redhat
Just my $0.02 (actually It's my £0.02 but there we go....)I used to, when I wass bored, trundle through my firewall logs, and report each thing to the respective ISP. YES, even little netbios connection attempts :P I think so far 5 people have had their account deleted and been blacklisted in the ISP world :D It's fun also, but with my current firewall (Kerio 3 Beta 6) the logs for the IDS are awful, so my fun and games are on hold for now :(

Redhat
Well one I remember took part in a DDoS on a network I Administered, and their PC wasn't hyjacked, because of a little revenge-snooping :). One was actaully a spammer yes, they got picked up by Authorities for the law over here is getting tighter on spam originating on UK soil. Others were using the beautiful idea of honeypots, of course, the AOL 'technical' staff couldn't comprehend their workings so they took it as an actual attack.Yes, I got contacted via e-mail of my 'successful' reports and that they had been disconnected from their services and other ISP's had been warned. Spose I'm gonna get flamed now :P I only used to do this cos I was either board to to teach these people it wasn't the right way to go. :)
