Startup Problem

I am having a problem with my PC on bootup. Bootup proceed ok right through to the point that I have a full desktop. The PC will then sort of freeze, the best way to discribe it is as follows.

If I go and click on start >> setting >> Networking connection the eggtimer will appear and clicking on anything does nothing, pressing ctrl alt delete will bring up the task manager, there is nothing using cpu or memory. There are only 23 processes running and I can confirm they are all legit. after about 10 minutes the network icon will appear in the systray and everything reverts to normal operation.

If I bootup the PC and login and don't touch it for about 10 minutes or more, it will works without a problem.

I have run adaware, spybot, hijack this and normal AV without finding problems. I have checked the DHCP server and that is issusing IP ok, an ipconfig release/renew took about 20 seconds without a problem. One other problem I have noticed is that clicking on my network places\view workgroup it bring up an error saying I don't have permission to view the workgroup. If I click on start >> search I can search for a computer, find it and access it

PC is a 2ghz AMD 764mb memory WINXP home with SP2 and all other updates.

Anyone any suggestion.

Hang in there draggin,someone will be along to sort you out I'm sure.

Have a look in the Events Viewer to see if there are any warning messages connected with the startup procedure.

(RIGHT click on My Computer -> Manage -> Event Viewer. Click on each category in turn and see what's in there.)

I'm wondering if there are problems with the hard drive not booting properly.

Damm how I hate it when someone state the obvious when I have forgot about it !!!

Unfortunately nothing listed in the event log but I have narrowed it down

Its is the entire taskbar, once I click on the taskbar or an item from the start menu it then just refuses to acknowledge any click until it is ready (10 minutes or so).

I can access things like the control panel ok via windows explorer (click my computer and it at the bottom) via a shortcut on my desktop.

OK its server services!

According to the event log, the event log started at 20:59 (system log) then at 21:15 it says "servers service hung on starting", this is then followed by about 5 service being told to start and then starting. A quick look on microsoft has revealed nothing, anyone any other suggestions??

I don't know what causes your problem, but until you get a permanent solution, can you try to set the Server service to manual, then start it manually after each reboot?

There's a bug on MS about multiple addresses being assigned to an external interface that causes a similar problem, the solution might work:

solution is:

One possible workaround is to clear the QoS Packet Scheduler check box for all interfaces in Network properties. This does not affect ISA Server bandwidth control functionality.

It was the second MS article that I needed, most of the line it suggested adding was already installed I just changed the data type to the one they suggested and its boots up perfectly and is immediately useable and the printer still prints
