clive
Can someone help as I am getting close to the computer through the window stage. My computer has USB 1 and I decided to install a USB 2 PCI card. After fitting it the computer would freeze during boot up. I tried unplugging two of the USB sockets (there are two direct on the motherboard and two on a card slot with cables to the motherboard) but to no avail. I then decided to return computer to original configuration but it now wont recognise USB at all. There is no mention of USB devices in the device manager list although I have reinstalled windows (XP pro SP2) and run the drivers disc for the motherboard (ASUS cusl2).Would be eternally grateful for any assistance. scuzzman
Your computer should have built-in USB ports - are they recognized?
trackrat
Have you been into the BIOS to make sure the USB ports are enabled?.
clive
Hi scuzzmanNo my 'puter is not recognising my USB ports. USB devices that I have connected do not come up in "My Computer" and the the hardware listing in device manager does not show any USB devices.trackratThe only mention of USB I could find in the Bios was Legacy USB support (Enabled/Auto/Disabled). I have tried Enabled and Auto so far but no joy. Currently it is on Enabled which it was on before I started my attempt to upgrade to USB2. Boris
I presume that its the Intel 815e chip set on the motherboard ? What is the make of the one on the new PCI card ? Via, Ali, ???Some cause conflicts !
clive
BorisYes you were right about the chipset. As for the new PCI card (USB2) causing conflicts, the computer doesn't recognise it's USB ports even with the new card not plugged in. clive
Thought you might like to know i've solved my USB prob. It was hidden in the Bios setup but not the usual USB support Enable/Auto/Disable. It was in the PCI config section.Does anyone know where I can get a driver for a Hewlett Packard Officejet Pro 1170c to operate with WXP SP2. The printer works but the scanner doesn't so presumeably I need a Twain driver for the beast (It's too old to be P&P)
