Jayno
TeamThese two bug/error fixer softwares have a similar name and seem to do the same thing. I have downloaded their free scanners and run them through my PC system. They each produced nearly 400 errors (majority being the load of old shortcuts they found on my second hard drive, which used to be my first and now has a load of uncleaned-out junk on it) but you have to buy the "release" licence to act on the scan results.I wondered if people think these programs are worth buying, or if there is an alternative that does the same job for nothing?Jayno
expertec
I'd say leave them well alone, I wouldn't buy it. And their site links to a one selling "The Shield" AV/Anti-spyware, which comes up as restricted in IE. :o

andsome
Best to stick to such programs as these that are recommended on this forum. Best to ask first. You risk downloading more Spyware.
Jayno
I agree Andsome, and of course that's why I asked here first. Surprised no one has suggested an alternative.J ;)
andsome
Spyware Guard, Spybot Search and Destroy, A squared, and Spyware Blaster. All will show up in Google. I use them all, as do many others on the forum. Also Adaware, but ensure that this is by Lavasoft, as there are similar names available. -pops-
Jayno, have a look here:http://www.windowsforum.org/forum/index.php?showforum=15 to find all the security software that is regularly used by Windows Forum members. Take your pick as to which ones you want but, I suggest all those suggested by andsome :). Most, if not all, is free so, you do not have to pay out anything to get comprehensive protection against malware. If you worst does happen and you do get clobbered, there is always:http://www.windowsforum.org/forum/index.php?showforum=53 where Nel and the expert team will sort you out. Jayno
Thanks Andsome & PopsI have all the programmes Andsome refers to (except A squared), plus one or two others. I have resisted purchasing the bug thingummies, but I am struck by the fact that these programmes identified a lot of stuff for removal that the WF favoured software didn't. Leaves me feeling there is more 'deep' cleaning that could be done on my Puta ...Jayno
-pops-
Commercial "bug cleaning" programs are well known to give false positives that can only be cleaned by purchasing the extras on their own software - as you say in your first post here. Some of these programs have even been known to insert undesirable bits of code purely to enable them to clean them out.Is your computer running OK? That, combined with the assurance that the freebie WF suggested security programs show nothing untoward should be sufficient for your peace of mind. If your computer is not running OK then I suggest that you run a Hi Jack This scan (as detailed in the appropriate section) and post the results so that our experts can have a look at it.Be careful not to become overly concerned about "intruders" into your computer. If you run the suggested programs regularly you should keep clear of them and if you do get caught by something nasty, you can always come here for advice. :)
scuzzman
Good programs producing similar results:RegscrubXP (registry cleaner - very good)CCleaner
Jayno
Nice one TeamVery helpful commentary from you Pops, thanks, and a recommendation for bug cleaning from you Scuzzman, cheers.Actually my PC is running pretty good after Nellie's help recently to sort out an About:blank attack. I do have a small but annoying problem related to switching the PC off, which I am discussing elsewhere on the WF, and I am getting sun java applet-loading problems on an IE streaming website I use, but no one seems to be able to figure this. I trundle on grateful for mercies and cheered by each new day ...
