Someone calls you asking for the tv program you're watching to and after answering, she/he might say: So! And why you don't pay the fee??!!. Afterwards you get an inspection free home. But there only the news are ads-free. In Spain, there are no fees. Public TV is not only different from commercial channels, but is worse than them and always incumbent managed. Like in Germany you get also a lot of advertisement too. Regarding BBC many abroad think of it as a standard for public television, but aren't able to follow it. andsome Posted March 9, 2005 Report Share Posted March 9, 2005 Analog is being phased out because there is simply not enough air space on those frequencies for all the applications that want to use it. This is why so many stations are available on digital, they can be crammed into very little airspace. Remember when we were on 405 line television, with nine inch and twelve inch tubes. Would you want us to still be using that system? Progress comes at a price. Look at the difference in first VHF and now digital radio reception. Would you want us back on medium wave and long wave? pwp Posted March 9, 2005 Report Share Posted March 9, 2005 the license fee is for the privilege of watching TV.you don't need a license for radio now but the license was mergedwith TV years ago.the BBC where already transmitting digitally on sky so had no need to take on freeview to progress and where does the internet fit in with making tv programs. A TV receiver can be a conventional TV or a computer capable of receiving broadcast channels. It is my understanding that a computer that receives streamed video - rather than broadcast over the air and received through an aerial - is not construed as a TV receiver. Rebel=UK= Posted March 9, 2005 Report Share Posted March 9, 2005 No detector vans these days ......All retail outlets that sell TV's and related products ,have to supply names and addresses of the purchaser by law , They just match up to the licencing addresses database , and see if you have not got one ...... I think the fine is now around £4,000 could just buy a second hand one from dirty harrys. If i remember you do not have to let the detector people in your home just tell them to naff orf.
