Random Reboots

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just built a new system

Athlon 3200

Aopen AK77 800Gn motherboard

512mb Ram

80gb Hitachi Deskstar

Windows 2000 Professional & Service Pack 4

I get these random reboots that can happen at anytime in any application have had them when installing software, in MS Office, Adobe Photoshop Elements to name a few. I've never had them on any other system. So far it has not caused any loss of data but someday might.

What proceedure should I use to try to solve this problem.

Thanks

GRaeme

These seem to happen just after the insertion or removal of a removable media device - such as a USB harddrive, jump drive, or other device. Have you noticed this?

Did anything change in your system just before this began happening?

This is a new build less than two weeks old so it is rather difficult to say about the removable media. I will see if having anything plugged into the USB ports makes any difference. I do use a pen drive to allow me to use any machine to do the work I need.

I did forget to mention that I also use Bluetooth for printing purposes as I have two machines and two printers (laser & inkjet). But all this works just fine.

The saga continues.

The latest blue screen of death message ....

*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x680EA553,0X000000FF,0x680EA553)

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESSOR _EQUAL

Beginning dump of physical memory.

When I logged back on I had to restore my active desktop.

The attached file is a screen dump of the Event Viewer.

I hope this allmakes sense cos I don't understand.

Someone please explain.

Graeme

Update time

not ram related - taken to another machine ran with no probs.

not boradband related - isn't connected

not cd/other drive related - all were disconnected

not IRQ related - not ! on yellow triangle, all motherboard drivers installed

I will be trying a new AGP card and upgrading to XP this weekend.
