Norton Internet Security 2005

Recommended Posts

Am typing this from friends PC. Basically he was running Norton 2004 but he had to go into hospital before he could update it to Norton 2005. He has since been out and purchased Norton 2005 but has run into trouble installing it, he's tried uninstalling the 2004 version but is reallt stuck installing 2005. Have tried doing the on-line update but there are conflicts. Now need guidance on how to proceed - please.

Been having a general look round, although there doesn't seem to be anything listed in add/remove programs - he's had a go trying to remove the old version - ther are several folders showing in C;\program files\Norton dated Jan 2004 and april 2005. Should I manually delete these or would they mess up the registry?

doug,

Try this link:

Removing Norton Antivirus 2004

There's a removal utility Norton makes for 2003 or earlier:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.n...001092114452606,

but they say it doesn't work on 2004 or newer. Too bad too. That utility's pretty easy compared to manual uninstallation!

[edit]I definitely don't recommend simply removing the folders manually. There are specific instructions for what folders/files and registry entries to remove in the link.

well i upgraded from nis2004 to nis2005 and what i had to do was use the unistall everything option in norton. then go into the %temp% folder and delete the contents and do a manual search for nav, and nis and norton. and symantec and delete anything connected to it. then empty the recycle bin, run a registry cleaner and then reboot. after reboot the run the nis2005 installation. worked great for me. cuz if you dont remove every little thing associated with norton first the new norton wont install right. hope this helps you out.
