Any PrevX users?

I have had PrevX installed for a long time now and it has behaved reasonably well but, in the last few days it has told me it needs updating and to click on the box for it to phone home.

I duly click and wait. After about half a minute it tells me I don't have an Internet connection and to retry or cancel.

Well, excuse me, Prevx, I do have an Internet connection. Everything else on the computer can access and use it, why can't you?

Is any other user having it play silly gubbers?

Just checked mine and tried update, phoned home and confirmed my security set to max with no problems.

I do however have X-cleaner anti spyware on the laptop and that's doing the no Internet access thing.

Monumentally unhelpful I know, but true non the less.

Tried again - same as before. Tried to get to their web site and received a Cannot connect to server DNS error.

Got to the web site via Google but couldn't get it to do anything.

Programs that mess me about have a very short life expectancy in my machines. Goodbye PrevX.

Have had PrevX for a few months now with no problem. As with all good antimalware progs. it's hard to know whether it is working effectively... since if no problems present and if a prog. doesn't play up, the asumption is probably that it is working well! In actuality it may be totally benign! But, as with the placebo effect with medication, who cares, since if it makes you feel good (confident) then it's probably worth having it installed!

But PrevX has caused me a problem, as you can see from the header post.

I did think that it was doing a good job - popping its head up from time to time to tell me it had stopped something or other but, as you must appreciate, having an out of date security progam is worse than not having it at all. So, with its refusal on numerous attempts to update either automatically or manually, it had to go.

There is little trust from me in a piece of software that tells me I don't have an Internet connection (or anything else for that matter) when I know damn well that I do have such a thing as I, and auto-update facilities of other programs, are able to use it.

I agree with you about the placebo effect but when the true nature of the placebo is revealed, its effectiveness is removed.
