benb Posted April 17, 2005 Report Share Posted April 17, 2005 Hi, I am having a problem with logging in on my XP system. As far as I know, I have not installed any new software. Just as a regular thing, I press <WIN> + L to log myself out, and when I came back to log in, it didn't work! I seem to begin to log in (loading your personal settings) and then for about half a second, a black screen (like a command prompt) pops up. I then (knowing Windows XP) thought a restart would do the trick. Wrong. I tried, same thing. I have just gone into Safe Mode and tried. Didn't work. I also tried Ctrl + Alt + Del to get the other login. SAME THING! I need some help. I really want to get into my XP! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

benb Posted April 18, 2005 Author Report Share Posted April 18, 2005 I do not believe that the removal of BlazeFind is the problem. The system is quite old. Probably over 5 years (I don't know for sure, got it from my grandfather). Anyways, it has a 700MHz Celeron, 160 RAM (128 + 32). Everything is fairly old. What does that have to do with logging in? Oh yes, I do not believe the hardware is failing because I was able to boot into both DSL Linux and Slax via CD. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

benb Posted April 18, 2005 Author Report Share Posted April 18, 2005 I have just gone into Safe Mode and tried. Didn't work. :) Is there anyway to access event viewer without logging in? Also, I don't ever check event viewer. Is it possible I have a virus? Because if I do I could use the NAV 2004 disc and see if it detects any viruses even at it's un-updated status. benb Posted April 19, 2005 Author Report Share Posted April 19, 2005 Well, I got the problem fixed. I just did a repair install of Windows. Scarecrow Man, I believe you were right. As soon as it booted it complained that I need to activate Windows. Well I did, and it is now working perfectly. You said the computer has been running fine for, "Probably over 5 years (I don't know for sure, got it from my grandfather)". I find it strange that Windows has, for lack of a better word, unactivated itself.Usually activation must be done after new hardware is installed, or removed.
