andsome
You need a floppy boot disc to start up and then put the CD in when told to. If you don't have on they are available from computer shops for a small price.
nellie2
You can download a W98 bootdisk from here, it will load generic CD drivers. Then when you have booted into dos put the W98 setup disk in the CD drive, type sfc and press enter. The system will then check the system files and replace any that are missing or corrupt... including hopefully the generic CD drivers. In this post, madboy33™ wrote that sfc was not supported on W98. In an earlier thread (that I cannot find now) someone stated that sfc already existed in W98.Could someone please confirm whether or not sfc would run on W98? nellie2
Oh yes it does.... I used to run it all the time when I had W98. Madboy said"sfc /scannow" does not work with 98seWhich doesn't..... The command is slightly different for W98 than it is for XP All you need to type in Run is sfc then click ok
r4may
You can also run sfc from the Win 98SE 'System Information' Window; select from the Tools optionThis allows you to scan the System files and select how and what you scan.
