andsome Posted May 11, 2005 Report Share Posted May 11, 2005 Beware of a catch, a program called Bug doctor. It is on the home page for Crap Cleaner. There is no mention of cost. When you download and run it, it finds several dozen potentially lethal problems on your computer. When you click to remove these problems, you are asked to pay $39 for ONE MONTH, and well over $100 dollars for a life certificate. I uninstalled the program, but a search found several references to it left on the computer. Somehow a restore point created today was not allowed to work. I had to delete what I could from the search program, and edit the registry to get rid of it all together. I wouldn't recommend anyone to download it. You are lucky, andsome, that you know something about your computer but, to the unwary, these can be a disaster.They either find things that are completely harmless/don't exist or, worse, plant things that they then offer to remove (for a fee). andsome Posted May 11, 2005 Author Report Share Posted May 11, 2005 Just one in each of Local Machine and current user. I did not check to see if they were empty or otherwise, I just deleted them. I use RegScrub XP every time I uninstall anything at all. I sometimes find as here, that even then one or two bits are left behind. My first port of call after Add/Remove programs, is Windows Explorer, then Start/ Search files and folders. Then Crap Cleaner, followed by RegScrub XP, followed by a peek into the registry.You will note on my link, that it says scan your PC for FREE. It is only after the scan that you are asked for money.
