Router/Modems

Hi Guy's, looking for some advice on a modem/router. Using a USB speedtouch 330 modem at the moment but want to buy a laptop in the near future and be able to have both on-line at the same time or either one, independent of the other.

I would prefer it to be wireless for the laptop use but it doesn't matter about the desktop unit as it is close to the phone socket, so can be wireless or wired.

My ISP sells them at £175! Ouch!! Netgear and D-Link models. I've seen them much cheaper than this, so would appreciate some advice on make/model please.

O/S is XP Pro. SP2. AMD 1800xp+ CPU. Motherboard is almost 3 years old now and nothing inside that will accept a connection for a router. I guess I would need a PCI card to go inside or a USB transmitter/receiver plugged into the rear USB slot? Any advice on the best way to go about this please.

many thanks. dj. :)

Something like this perhaps Dj ?

Claim a Free Netgear WG111 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter as sold for £30.56 when you purchase this Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Firewall Router

I would guess you probably have onboard LAN on the desktop, if not NICs seem to be cheap as chips
