Unfortunately Ad-aware seems to have lost all the settings from 1.05 during the uninstall. When I started the scan with 1.06 it seemed to take forever, until I noticed that it now scans all my partitions.

Did anyone else notice that the 1.05 settings were lost?

I did note that the settings that I had done by following Nellie's guide had changed. I have Nellie's guide printed, so it was easy to configure, and as I observed definitely faster than the older version.

Could you please give me a pointer to Nellie's guide? I cannot find it anywhere... :ninja:

There used to be a good guide at the lavasoftsupport forum, but that site has suddenly disappeared a few months ago. (And the new Lavasoft Customer Center is pretty much useless; I either get an error when entering a support request, or if I get through, I never get a reply from them).

I think this is what is known as nellie's guide http://forums.neoplanet.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12935

Confusing? The thing is that I posted the original then it was expanded by others (see signatures) and when the latest version came out, I asked that someone who did the previous expansion would update. Nellie was the one that volunteered :)

Thanks for the clarification and explanation; all clear now.

But a few comments; perhaps some additional corrections could be made.

Current Version of Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition: 1.6*

The current version is actually 1.06

Doing a Scan:

Click the "Scan now" button in the main menu on the left side of the main status screen or use the "Start" button in lower right corner. This will open the Preparing System Scan screen. Please deselect "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat. Then select "Use custom scanning options" and click "Customize". This will open the "Scan Settings Page. Make sure all of the following are On with a "green" checkmark:

Scan within archives

Scan active processes

Scan Registry

Deep-scan Registry

Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLs

Scan my Hosts File

Then Click the Advanced Button on the left side to open the Advanced Settings screen. Make sure the following is on with a "green" checkmark:

From here the instructions are missing. Which options should be checked?

The same is also omitted further down under Configuration Tips:.

Just above that it says

Items in green should be ignored.

Not quite sure what that means.
