dehydratedchicken Posted June 5, 2005 Report Share Posted June 5, 2005 Hi, first of all I'd like any moderators to let me know if I do anything wrong cuz am new hereOk, my problem is that I cannot access my private files which I had on my old Windows installationWhat happended was that I upgraded my computer but then, on boot up, after the BIOS screen the computer would reset.I installed windows XP Home on my new SATA hard drive, and the computer loaded up and all the hardware worked fineI then conencted my old IDE HDD up to copy the files from it onto the new HDD. However, this drive has Windows XP home installed on it too and the files I need were in My Documents and made privateI couldnt log into this version of Windows and therefore had to log on from the new installation (on my SATA). However, when trying to access my documents from there I couldt gain accessI now have over 70Gb of data on my hard drive but no access to itIs there way round this problem?I have tried: copying directories using command prompt reinstalling Windows on the IDE HDDI was thinking that perhaps if I installed a new OS, perhaps Windows x64 or Windows NT (one which supports NTFS formatted hard disk) then I would be able to gain access to them but am not sure if this would workPlease can someone try to help me as I need to get my work backThanks in advance!!! I had very bad experiences with it and it does not support 56k modems. I also had trouble with anti-virus and video drivers.512MB of RAM is sufficient, but a fast processor and large hard drive can only benefit from more.If you find you have a lot of programs running, close some unnecessary ones down.and a better definition of slow would help :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This 3700+ seems to take almost as long as my Athlon 2000+. dehydratedchicken Posted June 7, 2005 Author Report Share Posted June 7, 2005 nope, not that, I think it was a problem was my hard drives though, I was running a 200Gb SATA and 80GB IDE which I think were conflicting.I've taken the 80GB out and have ordered a 300GB SATA as a replacement for itI tried Windows Pro x64 but I dont have any drivers for my devices so went back to Home - it ran really fast thoughI couldnt even access the internet to check for any driver updates cuz I'm running NTL broadband and I didnt have the 64-bit driver for the AEI USB to Ethernet AdapterIf anyone knows where I can get 64-bit drivers from then pelase let me knowThanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
