SP2 - Firewall

Recommended Posts

Start > Control Panel > Security Center

This will tell you about Automatic Updates, Anti-Virus monitoring and Firewall.

SP2 does have a built in firewall, but I would recomend a 3rd party one like, Zone Alarm

BUT disable the Windows one if you go for this.

Disabling "Anti-Virus Monitoring" in security center is not a good idea. Nor is it an anti-virus solution. It simply monitors your Anti-Virus to see if it is running correctly, or at all, and if it is up to date.

I recomend AVG Free Edition if you are in need of an anti-virus.

Norton Internet Security is also a good product, but AVG is freeware. (nothing to buy, no yearly subscription)

I've got Zone Labs Security Center but prefer to disable the AntiVirus and use Norton Antivirus instead - I heard that Norton Internet Security is a good package but havent actually seen it in action

Norton IS is fine as long as you keep it updated, it can be a bit of a pig to set up if you want something different from the standard settings
