Graphics Problem

I have just installed Paint Shop Pro 9 on my new laptop.

I have set PSP as the default program for all graphics files. (jpg bmp etc)

If I open Windows Explorer and double click on a graphics file - PSP opens but to a blank window with an error message (see screen shot below)

If I right click on the file and select "open" the same thing happens.

If I right click on the file and select "Open With" PSP - then PSP opens with the file displayed.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled PSP without a cure - hence it looks like a Windows problem.

Any ideas?

Open PSP and see if there is a "File Associations" configuration. Set PSP to default for all, and if the error still occurs, try a different program like InfranView, set it to default, then back to PSP.

I know this is a pain, but I am not sure how else to do it without editing each extension manually, which would take a while.

Firstly - do you really want PSP to open all the picture files - it's a pain becuse it has to open to show them. I let window viewer do that and any PSP extensions I change to a jpg.

That looks like it's an induvidual image it can't find.

I'd uninstall - search for all the residue bits and bobs that need deleting, then reinstall.

There is an update for that version to 9.1. Go to help in the programme and get it from there.

I had no trouble at all ........... ;)

I have already upgraded PSP to version 9.01 so it is the latest software.

I have also trawled the Microsoft knowledge base for the "Windows cannot find" problem without success.

It looks like a Windows problem - but other files open OK in their respective programs like Word, Excel etc. when double clicked in Explorer.

All is OK on my desktop computer - its just the laptop that is temperamental.

I'm baffled.

The problem seems to be resolved - but by a strange route.

I right clicked on a jpg file, selected "Open With" and selected Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

This opened the picture.

I then clicked at the bottom of the picture viewer the button for "Open the Image for Editing"

This started PSP and the picture opened in it OK.

I then closed PSP.

I then opened Explorer and double clicked on a jpg file - PSP opened and the picture was loaded OK.

I don't know why - but the problem has gone away - fingers crossed.
