(unemployed mofo )Back with a small question: It might be some kind of stupid (at least), but can I connect an outdoor external antenna to a wireless NIC ??? A Wireless NIC can only connect to a wireless router, or base station and the distance is usually only about 30m. Same as any wireless phone.What are you trying to do? (at least I think I'm not ) :))I just got an odd ideea that I could skip the buying of an AP... That's all ...And I'm talking about antenna (external, outdoor) for wireless networking.. Yeap ! I cant find any reason not to, but it just doesn't seem right...The project is simple... I have a computer and a switch.. The distance between the computer and the switch is about 700m...I could go using repetears along the way (five of them ) and ftp cable.. But is so un-elegant... Or worse.. I could use fiber-optic cable... The wirelss solution is the most elegant one and the most cheap...Normally I could use two AP with outdoor external antaenas and my problem should be solved. Indoor antenna is the one that looks like a stick and you put it on your office...Outdoor antenna is the one that looks like a TV one (mostly)... This one allows you to have a much bigger communication distance between AP's.Now, since the big boss of my ISP is a good friend of mine, I allowed him to put an AP and an antenna in my house, and the distance between the this one and the client one was about 1000m... And it had quite a decent transfer...I can get directional antenna for about 120$... Wich is not that expensive.Netgear equipment is not that known around here... The brand I used to make the offer was Zyxel...And I still cant imagine why can't I connect an outdoor antenna directly to the NIC ??
