Thos
This is all a fascinating topic and I haven't a clue how it is all done. Going back to simple things... in another post birthday wishes were sent to a member, but on my screen, I received a rectangle, or rather several, with a small square with a red cross in the corner and the words "Birthday .gif". Is there a setting somewhere that I can alter so I can view these works of art? Actually, as I type this I notice that one of the clickable smilies on my left is also "red-crossed"Thos
scuzzman
I have split this from the Avatar Size topic...As for an answer, see this topic.
djohn
Occasionally if you see an image with a red cross in the corner it can be due to the site the image is hosted on is having a problem. The image will not show in this forum until the hosting site is up and running again. If all the images and smiley's are showing a red x at all times, it will be a setting in your browser that needs altering. Please post back to let us know which browser your using and if the red x applies to all the images, all the time. :)

Can't change my avatar either??
Thos
Thank you. I suppose scuzzman has the answer for the missing smilie (which is still "red-crossed").As for the others I spotted them whilst nosing through previous posts. In particular I saw a Happy Birthday post to Bluecow the other day and all the gifs in that post were "red-crossed". I use Internet Explorer and haven't experienced a problem before.Thos. Thos
Further to the above. I suspect it could be a security setting in IE. Which one to check (or uncheck)?Thos.
djohn
Good point artist. I've just checked on the "Show all" and the bottom half of the smiley's have not got a gif showing. Not sure if its a forum problem or the hosting site for the smiley's.Will check that out. Let me know if your still having a problem with your avatar and I will change it for you if you let me have the url. :)Hello Thos. It may be a problem at our end, give us time to look into it before altering anthing on your machine. :) Test :wallbash: Test :flowers: Test :confused:Yep! We have a problem with some of the smiley's. Those that were posted before the image went missing from the selection panel will most likely be showing up as a red x. Thos
I'm sorry, but who's talking to who here?Post 7. Djohn asked me to hold off for a while.Post 8. I don't think this is to me. If it is I am OK with my avatar now.Post 9. Scuzzman suggests (to me?) pressing Ctrl + R. In case it was to me, I did that with no change. When I open "Show All" below the clickable Smilies, there is a whole raft of them in the latter part which are "red-crossed"Confused Thos. Thos
Lots of people seem to have troubles with seeing smileys, old and new, and I have read the posts (including "missing flowers gif) with interest but not a lot of understanding. For my part, I seem to be able to insert the smilies but in general not see other peoples, unless they are self generated. What niggles me is that I couldn't see any of the photos in the seemingly now defunct photo competition. All of them were red crossed. Does anyone have a clue whether I can unblock these red crosses or is it, as was suggested earlier, a "host" problem.Thos :Nerd Confused:
