Oh!

Tried to download. Got this:

Google Earth downloads temporarily delayed

Thanks for your interest in Google Earth, but we're sorry we can't offer you a download right now. As you know, Google Earth is in beta, and we're still building out our ability to take on new users. We're making good progress, and expect to be able to accept new downloads shortly, so we recommend you check back daily at earth.google.com. We hope to be able to welcome you and other new planet surfers soon.

We appreciate your patience,

The Google Earth Team

Well, it's the same with most very popular programs, I suppose.

Looks good though.

Forget the Majorgeek download - it's for the plus (paid for) version.

I've just looked again at the original site and it's open for download - must have caught it at a bad time.

Back shortly when I've had a look at it.

Disappointed with it.

First thing is that it wants to change my screen resolution - which I'm not prepared to do. Because of this, it is oversize and will not reduce in all directions to fit my screen.

Wish I hadn't posted this thread now.

I'll have a look at it when I get home, I have sent the link to my address. I won't change my screen to suit, but will have a look at it.

Great pops :) ... sorry it wasn't for you though... I tried the world wind program you suggested in another thread and I couldn't navigate through the towns, let alone get any good detail...It's been hastily uninstalled :D ... I even found my house with google earth and it was reasonably distinct, but not up too close :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just downloaded Google Earth successfully after a couple of dud tries. I managed to " fly" to the Kent area but couldn't at first go get down to the detail shown by pwillener.

I must keep trying though, it looks good.

Thos. :)

The details or clearness is not the same everywhere. Big cities seem to be much more enhanced than countryside. If I visit my old residence in Lucerne/Switzerland, the whole area is a mere blur. But if I go to Zurich, the whole city is crisp and clear.

More funny is if I go to Sydney/Australia. Most of the city is very clear, but if I move towards the harbour and the opera house, that whole area is also blurred.

Hopefully some day they will have clear data for the whole earth.

P.S. Two of my favourite places in the world:
