catgate
For quite a few years I have noticed the fatuous things written on the sides of wagons, and worried about the way in which the world is becoming more and more stupid. I suppose these pointless phrases are suppoed to make one remember the name of the company, but in my case I just laugh and then barely remember the phrase. A couple of phrases that I do remember are "Lightening the Load", and "Taking the Strain". Today I saw a beauty....."Delivering Distribution Chain Solutions". The name of the company disappeared from mind as I was trying to decide if these solutions were solutions of lubricant, to make the chains run more easily, or if they were solutions of detergent, for cleaning them. I then started wondering what one could distribute on a chain. I have seen devices that farmers use for distributing dung that seemed to be mainly chain, and they would need both cleaning and lubricating. It all a great puzzle. I think we should start a collection of pithy epithets culled from the world of transport. All entries should be printed on the back of a five pound note and sent to :-
