Symantec Acquires Endpoint-Security Company Sygate

Security company Symantec is buying Sygate Technologies, a maker of security products that secure mobile and networked computers.

Symantec Corp., of Cupertino, Calif., said on Tuesday that it had signed agreements to acquire Sygate Inc., of Fremont, Calif., for an undisclosed amount.

The deal will combine Sygate's software for enforcing network security policies and securing so-called "endpoints," such as servers, laptops and mobile devices, with Symantec's stable of security wares, according to Symantec.

Sygate makes network access control technology for large enterprises.

The company sells a wide range of products, from enterprise and desktop firewall software to security policy enforcement tools for wired and wireless networks and devices.

Another nail in the coffin of good software.

How is it that such a crap company as Symantec can continue buying up good software concerns just to absorb them into their own rubbish products at the same time discarding all the good parts.

I am very sad at this news.

When I got rid of Norton 2003 recently, as mentioned in another thread. I bought Nod 32 AV and also downloaded Sygate. I have been very impressed with the program, and agree that it is a shame to see it be taken over. The Nod people told me on the phone that a major upgrade next year which will be available to all users as a free update, with be the incorporation of a firewall into Nod 32. I am looking forward to this because I am VERY pleased with Nod 32.
