AVG problem?

Since going on to BB I have one or two odd things occuring such as multiple message receipts and fiddley connections. It just happened that, due to getting a letter to the right place in the Onetel organisation, this afternoon I had a call from them, to "see if they could help".

After a short discussion of the faults the man at the other end said he would like to check my connection and would I fire up OE. I did so but could not get a connection. I got a message on screen saying that AVG was causing this.

"That's odd," I said, "because it was perfectly OK this morning."

" Well you have three messages here waiting to come to you" was the reply. "Do you use AVG or anything?"

" Yes, I do. In fact it updated itself at lunch time today." I said.

Then I realised that the update had required a reboot in order to reset its particles. Oh!!

" AVG sometimes causes problems with downloading emails," quoth he, " it sounds as though that might be the reason these three messages are still here."

Question:-

Has anyone else updated AVG in the last twenty four hours and if so "how goes it?"

I am still struggling with emails since my update. I am toying with turning it off, but it makes me feel vulnerable (and at my age that can be dangerous!)

I updated AVG today and have just accessed my e-mails without a problem (Wanadoo BB with OE)

Mine updates auto, and no probs with emails just 2 mins ago.

Saying that, a few times i have had duplicate emails, but after a while it sorts itself out, ;)

Try the personal configuration rather than shared. You can launch AVG and adjust settings according to your client and connection.

Are you using XP firewall ?

I had a problem when I first set it up.

In firewall exceptions I have :

AVG free control center.

AVG free edition for wins.

AVGEMC.

AVGINET.

All in and ticked, not having them in exceptions before caused email problems, ;)

Dont use zone alarm myself, but that link also includes setting up ZA for AVG, just check its set up ok to allow avg through the firewall ;)

It's all very queer. As I said in my last post on this topic, the problem seems to have "gorn". I can only assume that it was to do with the electrons in my works getting excited about the Bank Holiday (though god knows why they should).

Sounds like a typical PC, a reboot often does wonders :D
